  • Waller Trained Derby Second Heads North

    Tuesday, 13th July 2021

Chris Waller-trained Senor Toba (Toronado-Bahamas, by Teofilo) has been sold to Hong Kong and will join the stable of recently crowned Champion Trainer Casper Fownes' stable, reports racing.com. "I've got Senor Toba, who's coming to me, he arrives next month, so hopefully I can make him into a Derby horse," Fownes said when talking about his Listed Hong Kong Derby chances, a race he won this season with Sky Darci (Darci Brahma-Strictly Maternal, by O'Reilly). Senor Toba is the winner of two of his six starts, including the Gr3 Frank Packer Plate over 2000m, and ran second at his most recently start in the Gr1 Queensland Derby behind Kukeracha (Night of Thunder-Portrait of a Lady, by A P Indy). "I've got Rocket Spade coming from New Zealand as well, so he could be quite a nice horse for the stable." Rocket Spade (Fastnet Rock-Affairoftheheart, by Fusaichi Pegasus) won the Gr1 New Zealand Derby in March 2021, and his career record is five wins and two seconds from ten starts.
