Redoute's Choice King of BTP Dam Sires

One of the last remaining pieces of the extensive Black Type jigsaw puzzle is now in place following the addition of the Dam Sire category. The result is an unequivocal validation of the success of broodmares by Arrowfield Stud’s ill-fated former multiple champion sire Redoute’s Choice (Danehill-Shantha’s Choice, by Canny Lad). With three weeks of the 2020-21 racing season to run, Redoute’s Choice’s domination is marked. Noted in this column recently, his story is far from being written given just how successful his daughters are at stud and with a number of exciting young sire-sons at the start of their careers. At this point, he holds a massive lead of almost 180 points. He is on 489.5 points, followed by Zabeel (310), More Than Ready (297), Encosta de Lago (268) and Flying Spur (201). Redoute’s Choice’s haul is spear-headed by five Group 1 wins, and an overall tally of 17 individual placings in Group 1 races by progeny of his daughters.
