  • Unsuitable Ground Delays Espania Debut

    Wednesday, 7th July 2021

One of the most anticipated debuts of the Irish season has been delayed due to unsuitable ground. Immaculately pedigreed 3YO filly Espania (Galileo-Green Room, by Theatrical) was set to run at Limerick on Sunday in a 10.5 furlong maiden, however she is too valuable to risk on an unsure surface. Bred by Vimal and Gillian Khosla, Espania is trained by Aidan O'Brien for an ownership group comprising Westerberg, Sue Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith. She was a €3 million purchase at the Goffs Ireland Orby Yearling sale when consigned by Ballyinch Stud. Her Theatrical dam Green Room, a member of a magnificent Group 1 family, has already produced the Group 1 trio Lord Shanakill (Speightown) and Espania's Group 1-winning Galileo full-siblings Together Forever and Forever Together. It's a damline that has enjoyed elite success in France, the UK, Ireland and the United States.
