  • La Mexicana Set for Early Spring Resumption

    Friday, 2nd July 2021

The Anthony and Sam Freedman-trained rising 4YO La Mexicana (I Am Invincible-Cailn Miss, by Domesday) will target early Spring carnival riches with a possible starting point being the Gr3 Aurie's Star Handicap on August 7 before stepping up to Group 1 level. A winner of six races from nine starts, highlighted by the Gr3 Kevin Hayes Stakes and the Listed Crockett Stakes, the filly was last seen winning the lucrative VOBIS Gold Dash in mid-April. Raced by Ricky Surace's B2B Thoroughbreds, the filly was a purchase from the Lime Country Thoroughbreds draft by Damon Gabbedy's Belmont Bloodstock for $320,000 at the 2019 Magic Millions Yearling Sale. "I think we've really got to capitalise on her racing style and get her to those very good early races in the spring where you can often catch some of the good horses off guard by resuming nice and fit," Sam Freedman told racing.com. "A race like the Aurie's Star might be a potential resuming race for her and she might look to run in a Memsie and a Rupert Clarke," Freedman explained. Already a valuable broodmare prospect, La Mexicana is the third winner of the Listed-winning Domesday mare Cailin Miss from the extended family of Group 1 winners Brewery Boy and Lygon Arms.
