  • Roll Of The Dice in Winter Championship Final

    Wednesday, 30th June 2021

Having won the Listed Winter Championship Final 12 months prior with Sircconi (Nicconi), trainer Nick Ryan will back on Saturday in an attempt to win back-to-back running's of the race, this year with French import Dice Roll (Showcasing-Schlague, by Pulpit), a winner of all three of his Australian starts since transferring from Hong Kong. Sent to Australia to retire as such, Dice Roll was being a nanny for young horses when the decision was made to put him back into work with Ryan. Successful at Gr3 level in France before a third in the Gr1 French Derby behind the Aquis-raced Olmedo (Declaration of War), Dice Roll has been somewhat of a revelation since arriving in Australia, winning his local debut at Caulfield, before victories at Sandown and then at Flemington last start defeating Patrick Payne's millionaire Rubisaki (Rubick) by three parts of a length. A winner earlier in his career over 1600m, the distance of Saturday's race, Ryan is confident he has him in perfect order ahead of Saturday's race. "He came through the win terrific and he's really come on since. He's bouncing," Ryan said. "I've just got to get him there on Saturday in good order and he'll show up again. I think the way he's going he's definitely looking for the mile now and hopefully beyond and if he can stretch out beyond a mile that opens up a few doors."
