  • Naughty By Nature on Perth Cup Trail

    Monday, 28th June 2021

A strong finish by 4YO mare Naughty By Nature (Trade Fair-Catrenza, by Star Way) in Saturday’s Listed Strickland Stakes (2000m) at Belmont in Perth has provided connections with the confidence to aim her at the Gr2 Perth Cup (2400m). Set to be run on New Year’s Day over 2400m at Ascot, the additional distance looked like it will pose no problems for the daughter of former shuttler Trade Fair (Zafonic-Danefair, by Danehill) after she came with a sweeping run from near the tail of the field to get up for jockey Clint Johnston-Porter and trainer Jason Miller. A former jockey, Miller celebrated a unique treble, according to thewest.com.au. During his days in the saddle Miller rode Dedicated Miss (Mukaddamah) to victory in 2004’s Strickland Stakes. He also part-owned 2013 Strickland winner Kincaple (Pentire), and now with Naughty By Nature’s success has well and truly earned the Been There, Done That Strickland tee-shirt. Despite having earned a win-and-you’re-in Perth Cup entry, Miller says that while 2000m is about as far as his mare wants right now, she will be more seasoned with another preparation and will run the trip out.
