  • Capitalist Closing on 20 Winners

    Thursday, 24th June 2021

Continuing to extend his lead with the number of first-crop winners achieved for the season, Newgate Farm’s Capitalist (Written Tycoon) recorded his nineteenth individual first crop winner when the Matthew Vella-trained Sniper Legend (Capitalist-Lady Sniper, by Snippetson) recorded a 1.75-length victory at Hawkesbury on Tuesday. Making his second racetrack appearance after a solid second on debut in January, the Legend Racing Pty Ltd-owned gelding was a $170,000 Inglis Classic yearling sale purchase by Mitchell Bloodstock from the Newgate Farm draft, before being reoffered at the Inglis Ready 2 Race Sale where the Glenn haven Thoroughbreds-consigned 2YO was knocked down to owner Bon Ho for $550,000, the second highest price of the sale. Jumping away well from the barriers for jockey Jason Collet, Sniper Legend maintained his lead throughout the 1100m journey, pulling away to defeat the older horses in the manner of a promising horse moving forward. With Newgate Farm’s first season sires dominating the leaderboard, Capitalist currently sits in second position on prizemoney behind barn mate Extreme Choice (Not A Single Doubt), with fellow Newgate stallion Flying Artie (Artie Schiller) in third – having all supplied Gr1-winning juveniles this season with their respective first crops.
