  • Ryan And Alexious Debut Well-Bred Snitzel Colt

    Wednesday, 23rd June 2021

Purchased for $450,000 from the draft of Arrowfield Stud by co-trainer Gerald Ryan and Aquis Farm, 2YO colt Garmish (Snitzel-Sananda, by Anabaa) makes his debut in the Vinery Stud Handicap (1250m) today at Canterbury. One of eight runners in the nine-horse field to be having their first start, Garmish has been readied for his debut with two barrier trials, winning both under jockey Brenton Avdulla who will stick with the colt of Wednesday. Out of a half-sister to Champion European 3YO Filly Sarafina (Refuse To Bend), Garmish is a full to the Chris Waller trained Vitesse, a winner of five races and over $360,000 in earnings. With six of the nine runners at single figure odds, it is the Chris Waller-trained Minsk Moment (I Am Invincible-Dancing Express, by Oratorio) who is currently favourite, while another from the stable, Sword Mate (American Pharoah-Jazz Song, by Fastnet Rock), is also well in the market. Raced in similar ownership, the pair of colts were both purchased from the Magic Millions yearling sale for a combined total of $1.32 million. Another interesting runner is the Peter and Paul Snowden-trained Insurgence (Sebring-She's Got Gears, by Invincible Spirit), the most expensive yearling purchase of the field at $825,000, who is at longer odds.
