  • Cheveley and Then Del Mar for Quick Suzy

    Wednesday, 23rd June 2021

Promising Irish-bred 2YO filly Quick Suzy (Profitable-Snooze, by Marju) is likely to race in the Gr1 Cheveley Park Stakes next before she heads out to Del Mar’s Breeders’ Cup meeting. According to racingtv.com, Quick Suzy won her maiden by over five lengths at the Curragh, before finishing second in the Gr3 Fillies Sprint Stakes (6 furlongs) at Naas. She was subsequently bought by Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners in a sale brokered by bloodstock agent Joseph Burke and is now to stay with trainer Gavin Cromwell for the year after starring in the Gr2 Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot (see below). “Eclipse are about 10 years old, and Aron Wellman is the president. This is the first horse-in-training deal I’ve been involved with although a couple of years ago I offered him Princess Yaiza (Casemento), coincidently also trained by Gavin,” said Burke who believed she’d be good enough for Eclipse after her win at the Curragh. “I hadn’t seen anything good enough for the next few years [since Gr2 winner Princess Yaiza], then this filly came along. A friend of mine bought her for her previous owners. I couldn’t really offer her to a syndicate like Eclipse without some form in the book.” After winning a Group 2, her next aim is a Group 1. “Now she’s won a Group 2 there’s not much point heading for something like the Lowther with a penalty, so the Cheveley Park looks the next logical race [as] she’s had four runs already.”
