  • McEvoys Secure Victory for Blueblood Fillies

    Tuesday, 22nd June 2021

Meanwhile, on the same card as racecaller Brendan Delaney’s unlikely tipping clean sweep (see above) the powerful Tony and Calvin McEvoy stable went home content with an important job done. The McEvoys saddled up very well-bred fillies in the opening two events for a perfect pass-mark. The first of the winners was 2YO debutante Nabbed (Written Tycoon-Pasadena Girl, by Savabeel). Out of Gr1 ATC Champagne Stakes winner Pasadena Girl, she was a $320,000 purchase consigned by Little Avondale Stud at the 2020 New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sales Series. In Race 2, equally well-supported favourite Tessneem (Lonhro-Dancing Heather, by Danzero) also collected. Runner-up on debut, Tessneem was a $1.4 million purchase by Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa al Maktoum at the 2019 Inglis Easter Sale from the draft of Newhaven Park. The most expensive yearling ever by Lonhro (Octagonal), Tesneem, who landed a very soft win, is a full-sister to dual Group 1-placed Group 2 winner Heatherly. Their dam Dancing Heather is a half-sister to Gr1 Stradbroke winner Linton whose multiple Group placings also included the Gr1 Australian Cup, Gr1 BMW Stakes and Gr1 Australian Guineas.
