Trainer Peter Moody will have had the weekend to reflect on what he, and every other racing fan in Australia, saw on Saturday at Ipswich’s stand-alone meeting. Although there were three Listed races that headed the program, it was the stayers’ Provincial Final that set tongues wagging. Standing out like a lighthouse on a promontory, 4YO gelding Incentivise (Shamus Award-Miss Argyle, by Iglesia) was simply in a race of his own. The $1.30 favourite sauntered to a 9.5-length margin over the 2500m trip that could just as easily have been a dozen. Making the result even more meritorious is that in his penultimate run, at Eagle Farm over 1810m, he defeated Happy Go Plucky (Pluck) by 9-lengths with the runner-up stepping out four races later to spank his opposition in the Listed Ipswich Cup (2150m). Purchased during the week from trainer Steve Tregea – he will remain in the ownership – by big-ticket owners Brae Sokolski and Ozzie Kheir, Incentivise will do his future racing under the tutelage of Peter Moody with an eye on the big Cups races. With an aggregate winning margin of over 25-lengths from his last three starts, the son of high-profile Rosemont Stud stallion Shamus Award (Snitzel) is obviously very good. It’s a long way from Toowoomba to Flemington, but on what he’s shown to date Incentivise might just prove to be the bush battler that stands up on the first Tuesday of November.
Incentivise is $51 into $26 in the Caulfield Cup and $101 into $51 in the Melbourne Cup 👀 https://t.co/csYEaOO4ZM
