  • Changing of The Hayes Guard from Monday

    Friday, 18th June 2021

If one was asked to pick just two training dynasties in Australia it’d be hard to look beyond the Cummings and Hayes families. With the former currently boasting the late Bart Cummings’ son Anthony, and his sons James and Edward – all Group 1-winning trainers, the Hayes clan will add another rung to its powerful Lindsay Park stable as of Monday. With the late Colin Hayes’ son David now back in Hong Kong, his highly respected nephew Tom Dabernig will go it alone in Victoria as of Monday. That leaves his former training partner Ben Hayes to continue running the powerful Hayes family stable. The son of David will officially be joined from Monday by his younger brother JD after Racing Victoria rubber-stamped the new partnership during the week. Like his twin brother Will (a professional AFL player), JD comes from a strong sporting background having also played AFL at a very high level after captaining his team at Victoria’s iconic Melbourne Grammar. The new partnership kicks off with a strong hand on Monday where Ben and JD will be represented by 14 entries at Wangaratta. Meanwhile, Sam Hayes, a son of former champion trainer Peter, runs successful South Australian stud farm Cornerstone Stud.
