  • Stradbroke Weight Drop to Suit Signore Fox

    Thursday, 10th June 2021

With his Queensland target having always been the Gr1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m), the Peter and Paul Snowden-trained Signore Fox (Exceed And Excel-Sharp Susan, by Touch Of Gold) will appreciate his massive weight drop from 59kg last time out when a narrow third behind Vega One (Lope de Vega-One Funny Honey, by Distorted Humour) and Jonker (Spirit of Boom-Hearts And Arrows, by Kempinsky) in the Gr1 Kingsford-Smith Cup. Jockey Ben Thompson will ride at 52kg on Saturday in the Stradbroke. Bred by leading South African thoroughbred farm Drakenstein Stud and sold through the draft of Coolmore Australia at the Inglis Easter yearling sale, the four-time black type winner is a half-brother to South African Horse of the Year, Champion 3YO Filly and four time Gr1 winner Oh Susanna (Street Cry-Sharp Susan, by Touch Gold). They are out of the Gr2-winning, Gr1-placed Touch Of Gold mare Sharp Susan, herself a half-sister to Gr1 winner Sharp Lisa (Dixieland Band), who is in turn the dam of the Gr1 The Metropolitan winner Foundry (Galileo). With less than three parts of a length separating Vega One and Signore Fox last time out, their places in the betting are at different ends of the spectrum, with the Tony Gollan-trained Vega One currently sharing favouritism with Wild Planet (Animal Kingdom-Salutations, by Redoute's Choice) who finished a last start second in the Gr1 Doomben 10,000, while Signore Fox has 12 runners ahead of him in the market.
