  • Albumin Has Sights on Second Stakes Win

    Thursday, 10th June 2021

The Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou trained Albumin (Foxwedge-Dushanbe, by Secret Savings) is looking to continue his solid form this campaign which saw the 6YO grey gelding win the Listed Ortenisa Stakes two starts back, when he lines up (weather dependant), in Saturday's Listed Bob Charley AO Stakes (1100m) at Randwick. With the look of a possibly rain-affected track if the weather bureau is correct, co-trainer Ryan stated, "He would run on a soft (6) but I don't know if I would run him on anything heavier." While he is yet to win at the track in 12 starts, the gelding has been in great form and connections are confident of a forward showing. "He is doing well," Ryan said. "He drew a good gate the other day but he threw it away on him and I thought halfway up the straight he was going to drop out, but he fought back and found the line good." The training duo have another Foxwedge runner nominated in the race, that being the speedy Villami (Foxwedge-Galapagos Girl, by Dehere) but, like Albumin, the weather will play an important role on her lining up on race day. "If it's a true (soft) five or better we will run her but if it's a five going into a six I won't waste my time," stated Ryan. Second in a barrier trial last Friday, Villami has not been seen at the races since her third in the Listed Century Stakes at Flemington in November.
