  • Oaks Winner Media Award to Head West

    Wednesday, 9th June 2021

Last start Gr1 Australasian Oaks (2000m) winner Media Award (Shamus Award-Music Media, by More Than Ready) will be aimed towards the Gr1 Railway Stakes (1600m) and Gr1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m) at Ascot in Western Australia during the Summer after a failed attempt to contest the Gr1 Queensland Oaks last weekend in Brisbane when scratched by the vets on medical grounds. "We will bring her back for the spring, late spring or early summer," Calthorpe told racing.com. "I'd like to give her a run in Melbourne and then I'd like to target the Gr1 Railway and then the Kingston Town. As much as I'd love to have a runner in a Caulfield Cup or Cox Plate, you've also got to be realistic too." A winner of her last three starts from 1479m to 2000m culminating in her Oaks victory over Gr1 VRC Oaks winner Personal (Fastnet Rock), Media Award was the first Oaks winner this season for her Rosemont Stud based sire Shamus Award (Snitzel) followed by the Edward Cummings-trained Duais (Shamus Award-Meerlust, by Johannesburg) who impressed in the Gr1 Queensland Oaks last weekend. Off the back of a stellar season, the Gr1 WS Cox Plate winner Shamus Award will stand this year at a fee of $33,000 (inc GST), rising from the $19,800 (inc GST) he commanded last season.
