  • Sires' Produce Produces the Goods

    Friday, 28th May 2021

A look through the history books of the BRC Sires' Produce Stakes highlights the quality that has come through the race, with the likes of Melody Belle (Commands), Zoustar (Northern Meteor) and Shoot Out (High Chaparral) just three of the recent stars to have won the Group 2 contest. While it's hard to speculate if any in this Saturday's field can reach those heights, one juvenile who is currently unbeaten and looks full of promise is the Robert Heathcote trained Prince Of Boom (Spirit Of Boom-Dazzling Display, by Red Dazzler) who is two from two, highlighted by a dominant 2.5-length win last time out in the Gr2 Champagne Classic, a typical lead up to the Sires'. While not having started since the Gr1 Champagne Stakes on April 24, the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained Port Louis (Maurice-Cat By The Take, by Tale Of The Cat) is one runner who could cause a blow out if his last start effort is anything to go by. Jumping from the outside barrier and settling last, the Arrowfield Stud-sold colt was still at the tail rounding the home turn before finding trouble and charging home to be beaten just on 2-lengths by Captivant (Capitalist) in the Champagne – see below. Given an easy time in a recent barrier trial by race day jockey Hugh Bowman, it would be no surprise to see this colt become the first Australian stakes-winner for his Japanese-bred Arrowfield shuttle sire.
