  • Prince Of Boom in Rothfire's Considerable Shadow

    Friday, 28th May 2021

Trained by Rob Heathcote, exciting 2YO find Prince Of Boom (Spirit of Boom) is only two stables down from the stable's Gr1 JJ Atkins-winning juvenile of last season, Rothfire (Rothesay). The latest young gun for Heathcote, Prince Of Boom is undefeated and is working to remain so coming into the big league in Eagle Farm's Gr2 BRC Sire's Produce Stakes (1400m) on Saturday. Following a 5-length drubbing of his opponents in an impressive Sunshine Coast debut, Prince of Boom immediately followed up just 6 days later when winning the Gr2 Champagne Classic at Doomben by 2.5-lengths. But while he could only beat the fields he faced, the $6 JJ Atkins chance will face stiffer competition on Saturday, including the unknown x-factor of southern state raiders. "You could easily make a case for five or six negatives with him going into the Sires', with the biggest positive being that he is simply just a damn good horse," Heathcote declared to punters.com.au. Ben Thompson will be riding Prince Of Boom who the jockey thinks of as a racing weapon. Heathcote knows Thompson makes very few mistakes and has a calm head on his shoulders. "He presents well, he does his form, and he is riding very effectively and not making too many errors." It's an exciting time for Heathcote after Rothfire sustained a bad injury during the Gr1 Golden Rose in Sydney last autumn. With Rothfire's return highly anticipated, and Prince of Boom a possible doppelganger for his year-older stable mate, the next 12 months offer plenty of hope for the Queensland stable.
