  • $1.4m Yearling Montenegro Set for Debut

    Wednesday, 26th May 2021

The 2YO colts and geldings race at Canterbury on Wednesday, the Blue Point @ Darley Handicap (1250m) sees just the two emergencies as having raced in the 14, plus two emergencies, field, making it a very intriguing contest. Trainer Chris Waller has accepted with six runners, with the most interesting being the Lee Magorrian-ridden Montenegro (I Am Invincible-Twilight Royale, by Tessa Rossa), a $1.4million Inglis Easter Yearling Sale purchase by Tom Magnier from the Kia Ora Stud draft. Racing in the Coolmore silks, the stunning looking colt is raced in partnership with a host of heavy weight industry players, with many of them also racing Cape Breton (Vancouver-Exclusive Lass, by Nicconi) and Celtic Harp (No Nay Never-Lagerphone, by Fastnet Rock). Race favourite is the Willow Park Stud-consigned Cape Breton, who races in the Sir Peter Vela silks, worn to success by the likes of Caulfield Cup–Melbourne Cup heroine Ethereal (Rhythm), and her outstanding dam Romanee Conti (Sir Tristram), while the Mark Newnham-trained Stick To Your Guns (Capitalist-Marli, by So You Think) is looking to break the Chirs Waller stranglehold on the race and give his sire his seventeenth first crop winner, having achieved 15 in Australia and one in New Zealand already.
