  • Might and Power Indelibly Linked to Caulfield

    Tuesday, 25th May 2021

To honour champion racehorse Might and Power (Zabeel-Benediction, by Day Is Done), the Melbourne Racing Club (MRC) has changed the Group 1 Caulfield Stakes name. According to heraldsun.com.au, simply renamed The Might and Power, the 2000m event will be run on October 9 (Caulfield Guineas Day) to bring remembrance of the 1997 Caulfield Cup winner who passed away last year from colic. To facilitate this, the Gr1 Thousand Guineas will be moved to the Wednesday, taking the midweek place of the Blue Sapphire Day for the first time since 2013. Nick Moraitis, the owner of Might and Power, stated, “Might and Power had a great association with Caulfield, and it was always a highlight of mine to come to the racecourse to watch him race.” Renaming the stakes will ensure Might and Power is forever associated with a significant part of Caulfield’s history, a gesture Moraitis acknowledged: “It’s a nice touch from the Club to rename the Stakes – he’s cemented himself as part of Caulfield’s history.”
