  • Waller Is Lord of Mayor's Cup

    Friday, 21st May 2021

Acceptances for the lone stakes race at Rosehill on Saturday, the Listed Lord Mayor’s Cup (2000m), are dominated by Champion trainer Chris Waller, with five of the final 16 highlighted led by last year’s winner Wu Gok (Sebring-Lipari, by Redoute’s Choice) and last start Listed Gosford Cup winner Polly Grey (Azamour-Allanah, by Zenno Rob Roy). Currently in top form with two wins from her last three starts, the six-year-old Polly Grey has good form at the track, but her form over the trip is somewhat lacking, however, in saying that, the old saying that once a mare finds form, she keeps it, is one to follow on this occasion. Surprisingly, none of Waller’s quintet is the race favourite, with that honour going to the Bjorn Baker trained Parry Sound (Pierro-Aqua D’Amore, by Danehill), a narrow second last time out over the 2100m at Gosford. While you never say never, one of the outsiders of Waller’s runners is the aptly named The Lord Mayor (Rock ‘N’ Pop-Soph, by Lord Ballina) who was slightly disappointing when finishing down the track in the Listed Wagga Gold Cup last start, but with 10 top three placed performances over the distance of Saturday’s Lord Mayors Cup, anything could happen.
