Having trained Sedanzer (Sebring) to victory in the Listed Scone Cup three years ago, Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott are back this Friday with New Zealand-bred Mr Dependable (Reliable Man-La Grande Dame, by Pins). Successful at his most recent two starts over 1550m and 1800m, the drop back to 1600m shouldn't prove an issue with the five-time winner being freshened up since his most recent win on Anzac Day. Sitting at double figure odds behind the favoured pair of Royal Celebration (Excelebration-Crimson Code, by Redoute's Choice) and Laure Me In (Ad Valorem-Laurelling, by Highest Honor), the race does appear quite open with Mr Dependable being the only last start winner in the large field. With a few differing form lines coming into the race, one angle worth looking at could be the Gr3 Hawkesbury Gold Cup where Scone Cup co-favourite Royal Celebration finished second, while the John Thompson-trained Purple Sector (Pins-Eden Valley, by Zabeel) took third and the Sam Kavanagh-trained Sikandarabad (Dr Fong-Sindiyma, by Kalanisi) was doing his best work late to finish in sixth.
