  • Perfect Start for Apprentice Wells

    Wednesday, 12th May 2021

Apprentice jockey Chloe Wells had the perfect start to her riding career when she won her first race at Devonport on Sunday, reports tasracing.com.au. The win came aboard Gee Gees Cricket (Wordsmith-Gee Gees Firstover, by Over) in the Devonport Happy Mother's Day Handicap over 1350m. The 6YO gelding is trained by Team Wells, comprised of Chloe Wells' father Dean, uncle Trent and grandfather Leon Wells. "I'm just rapt to be out here riding in races and to land a winner at my first race ride is unbelievable," Wells said. "It's a bit of an emotional roller coaster and the enormity of what I've done hasn't really sunk in yet. All I've wanted ever since I was a young teenager was to be a jockey, but Mum and Dad said I had to finish school and college before I could do it, so I did all that and here I am today." Gee Gees Cricket has now won six of his 43 starts and placed on 14 occasions for earnings over $100,000. He is a full-brother to Listed winner Gee Gee Secondover.
