  • Wet Track the Key for Brutality's Chances

    Thursday, 6th May 2021

Trainer Joe Pride hopes the rain sticks around until Saturday's $500,000 The Coast for his 4YO gelding Brutality (Shamus Award-Star Salute, by General Nediym), reports racingnsw.com.au. All four of Brutality's wins have been on a wet track. "I envisaged exactly what we're going to have, a wet track, and that works out well," said Pride about the inaugural running of The Coast. "The wetter the better with him, he loves it, he's an absolute swimmer. He's [had] six starts on the good for one placing so he's clearly advantaged when he gets onto these kind of tracks." The Coast is for 3YOs and 4YOs over a mile at Gosford on Saturday and Pride said that it is hard to judge the strength of the field. "It's a real mixed bag isn't it. You'd never get this collection of horses together for any other kind of race,'' Pride said. "I see him being pretty reasonably placed running for this kind of prizemoney." Brutality is currently $15 with the TAB, while All Saints Eve (Sacred Falls-Halloween, by Encosta de Lago), Wheelhouse (Pierro-Sailing By, by Fastnet Rock) and Nudge (Fastnet Rock-Julinsky Princess, by Stravinsky) are joint favourites at $6. A $40,000 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale graduate from the draft of Bhima Thoroughbreds, Brutality is by Gr1 Cox Plate winner Shamus Award (Snitzel-Sunset Express, by Success Express) who is kicking goals with 12 stakes winners including Gr1 winners Media Award (Shamus Award-Music Media, by More Than Ready) and Mr Quickie (Shamus Award-Special Favour, by General Nediym).
