Purchased from the draft of Newhaven Park Stud at the 2020 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale for $350,000, the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained 2YO colt In The Congo (Snitzel-Via Africa, by Var) impressed at Monday's Randwick barrier trials, winning his heat by 4-lengths with Tim Clark in the saddle. Raced in partnership by Newgate Farm, China Horse Club, Go Bloodstock Go, et al, the colt is the second foal of the three-time Gr1-winning Champion South African mare Via Africa, whose first foal, a son of Redoute's Choice named Pleasant Endeavour, has won two of four in Hong Kong. Her current yearling, a filly by Vancouver, was sold to Ryan Bloodstock at this year's Easter Sale for $260,000. Jumping to the lead from the get-go, Clark rated the colt very well in front, and although the time was the slowest of the day over the distance, it was the manner in which he won that has this colt as one to look for when he debuts in the near future.
