  • Niccanova Trialling for Stradbroke

    Friday, 30th April 2021

Trainer Steve Tregea believes his galloper Niccanova (Nicconi-Dananova, by Snippetson) can upset the favourite Trekking (Street Cry-Outdoor, by Redoute's Choice) in Saturday's Gr2 Victory Stakes over 1200m at Eagle Farm, reports racingqueensland.com.au. "He's been in work a long time to get ready for this campaign and he's had a couple of jump outs at Toowoomba," Tregea said. "His first jump out two weeks ago was just an easy gallop but he was a lot more serious when he won his second one on Tuesday. He's going well but he's still a little fat." If he runs well, the aim is the Gr1 Stradbroke Handicap in June. Niccanova hasn't raced since early January when he ran second in the Magic Millions The Buffering over 1400m and in a 37 start career, he has recorded nine wins and almost $1 million in earnings. "Niccanova hasn't won at weight-for-age yet but his last run at weight-for-age in Sydney was very good behind Verry Elleegant," Tregea said. "On the downside, Trekking has the same weight but it's better for us than having to carry more than 60kgs in a handicap." Trekking is currently $2.25 with Unibet while Niccanova is fifth in the betting at $12.
