  • Easter Sets New Southern Hemisphere Record

    Wednesday, 7th April 2021

An extraordinary opening day of the 2021 Inglis Easter Sale has resulted in a record individual day of trade for a Southern Hemisphere yearling sale, with $64,470,000 grossed at Riverside. The Day 1 gross eclipsed the previous record of 2019 – held by Inglis – with 175 horses sold at an average of $368,400 and at an impressive clearance rate of 85 percent. A total of 11 horses sold for a million dollars or more – from nine different individual buyers involved - with another six realising $900,000-$950,000. Stallion-of-the-moment Capitalist (Written Tycoon) achieved his first $1 million yearling, with Lot 222 (ex Bonnie Mac, by Thorn Park) realising $1,050,000 to Hickman Racing from Yarraman Park Stud, while Exceed And Excel sold his first $2 million-plus yearling when Lot 5 (ex Peace Force, by Bernardini) from Vinery Stud sold to Tony Fung Investments for $2.1 million, and will be trained by Annabel Neasham, trainer of connections’ Gr1 Rosehill Guineas winner Mo’Unga (Savabeel). Aquis’ Shane McGrath, representing Fung, described the colt as “the best horse we’d seen in a couple of years at any sale’’. He stated, “He was a must-have colt for all of us, it’s as simple as that!” McGrath noted, “He’s got a great temperament, a fabulous action, a huge hip on him, I was watching him walk around a couple of times and all I could think of was you can absolutely picture him walking around before a Slipper next year with a saddle on his back…”
