  • Brazilian Pulses' Blue Jager Debuts at Canberra

    Wednesday, 31st March 2021

Trained by Warwick Farm-based Mathew Smith, 3YO filly Blue Jager (Not A Single-Doubt-Brazilian Pulse, by Captain Rio) heads to Canberra on Wednesday to make her debut off the back of three barrier trial performances. First heading to the trials in May 2020, the filly was not seen again until February in 2021, before another trial in early March in readiness for her debut. A daughter of Gr1 VRC Oaks and Gr2 Wakeful Stakes winner Brazilian Pulse (Captain Rio) who was trained during her career by Michael Moroney, Blue Jager was offered as part of Arrowfield Stud's 2019 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, where she was the lone purchase for her trainer, knocked down for $300,000. The dam of three to the races, all winners, highlighted by the five-time winner Tonsor (Redoute's Choice), Brazilian Pulse didn't make her debut until early in her three-year-old season, where she continued to improve. With jockey Blaike McDougall set to partner the filly from barrier five in the ten-horse field, the hardest to beat looks to be the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained 3YO gelding Valiant Lad (I Am Invincible-Adaline, by Court Of Jewels), a debut third over 1200m at Goulburn recently, while locally trained Whatever It Takes (Magic Albert-Pinot Royale, by Red Ransom) makes his debut for Matthew Dale off a barrier trial second.
