  • Wet Rosehill Track Holds no Fears for Cummings

    Thursday, 25th March 2021

Saturday's Golden Slipper meeting, which includes the James Cummings-trained Gr1 Blue Diamond placegetters Anamoe (Street Boss) and Ingratiating (Frosted) in the $3.5 million Group 1 2YO sprint, also features four older Godolphin horses engaged in three other Group 1 races, and conditions are likely to suit the quartet. Cummings is pleased with 4YO mare Colette (Hallowed Crown) ahead of the Ranvet Stakes (2000m), noting: "The extra week and the rain have given us the opportunity to run Colette on a track that should suit her admirably… her heavy track form speaks for itself. The Sydney Cup remains her goal and this race fits in nicely with that program." Tackling the George Ryder Stakes (1500m), 7YO gelding Avilius (Pivotal) has trained on nicely, and Cummings flagged, "He's a three-time Group 1 winner, an equine patrician, and the likelihood of a heavy track on Saturday will give him the chance to show his best." Also engaged in the Ryder is 6YO gelding Cascadian (New Approach) whose primary target is the Gr1 Doncaster (1600m). "He is a winner at this course and distance, he can get through a wet track and he's going to be improved by his run in the Newcastle Newmarket," said the trainer. Meanwhile, bullish about her low weight in the Gr1 Galaxy Handicap, Cummings is enthused by 4YO mare Tailleur's (Shooting To Win) prospects: "Small fish are sweet, but a Group 1 Galaxy victory would deliver a feast of good eating. They called the meeting off after heavy rain when she won by 6-lengths at Moonee Valley. The wet is certainly of no concern to her."
