  • Change of Plans for Guineas Winner Odeum

    Thursday, 25th March 2021

With the push back of Golden Slipper day to this Saturday, many trainers took the opportunity to nominate further runners who were not in the originals' acceptances, and once such trainer who jumped at the chance to nominate other runners was Mick Price. Contesting the opening race of the meeting, the Listed Darby Munro Stakes, is last season's Gr1 Thousand Guineas winner Odeum (Written Tycoon-Move, by Red Ransom) who was considered unlucky by many when she resumed this time in, stuck behind a wall of horse before finishing fourth over 1400m at Listed level. Price indicated that due to the change in the carnival dates, that a decision was made to target the lucrative prizemoney on offer with the filly set to head to the Gr2 Emancipation Stakes after Saturday's race before a possible start in the Gr1 Coolmore Legacy. Original plans had the filly heading to Adelaide to target Group 1 races over a distance, with connections weighing up their options as they feel she could develop into a Gr1 WS Cox Plate contender in the Spring, and they want to get her up over a trip to test out her stamina. With her regular jockey Michael Walker coming up from Melbourne to partner the filly, connections will be hoping that the inside barrier does not cause similar issues to her last start where she couldn't get out. Race favourite, the Tony Gollan-trained Isotope (Deep Field-Great Dansaar, by Choisir) has come up with barrier seven, while super impressive last start Listed winner Marboosha (Dream Ahead-Boomex, by Exceed And Excel) will jump from barrier 5 in the 14 horse field.
