  • New UK Jockey Heading for Hong Kong

    Tuesday, 23rd March 2021

With Joao Moreira utterly dominating the normally ultra-competitive jockey scene in Hong Kong, the Territory’s tracks of Sha Tin and Happy Valley will soon have a newcomer added to their ranks. His name is Harry Bentley, and he’s ridden 51 winners in the UK this season. Bentley has been granted a jockey’s licence for the period from 16 April 2021 to the conclusion of the current 2020/2021 Hong Kong racing season on 14 July. The 28-year-old Group 1-winning hoop, best-known for partnering Henry Candy’s Limato (Tigula-Come April, by Singspiel) to victory in both the July Cup and Prix de la Foret, will be the latest rider on the Hong Kong roster, joining the likes of Moreira, Zac Purton, Alexis Badel and former British-based jockey Neil Callan. Bentley, who has never ridden in HK before, arrives in time to compete at FWD Champions Day (25 April), where there are three Group 1 prizes on a day where more than $12 million is up for grabs.
