  • Affair to Remember Retirement Likely

    Thursday, 18th March 2021

Swettenham Stud's emerging sire Toronado (High Chaparral-Wana Doo, by Grand Slam) will need to find another classy runner as his Gr2 winner Affair to Remember (Toronado-St Trinians, by Black Hawk) will invariably be retired after injuring her hoof during a scan. "There's some potential she could race again but its (hoof) got to hold and if it doesn't hold it dies and then it has to grow out, and that's three months away and its close to breeding season by then and she's worth a lot of money," said trainer Dan O'Sullivan. "They vetted her up for the All-Star Mile and they weren't happy with her action. By Sunday morning I was very happy with the way she trotted up but they wanted to investigate further and so we booked in bone scans and that's the end result. She's climbed up and tried to get out a window and she's hooked a shoe on it and then pulled the back of the hoof away." Affair to Remember has raced 16 times for 4 wins (including the Gr2 Matriarch Stakes at Flemington last year) and 6 placings (including the Gr1 Australasian Oaks at Morphettville and Listed Ballarat Cup) for earnings of close to $500,000.
