  • Wisdom of Water Back on Track

    Wednesday, 17th March 2021

A winner of two of his first four starts, with both victories coming at the Gold Coast Turf Club highlighted by the Gr3 Ken Russell Memorial, the then Edmonds Racing-trained Wisdom of Water (Headwater-Regal Tier, by Royal Academy) was touted as a potential star of the future. Aquis Farm proceeded to purchase a controlling interest in the colt with his next start being a 4-length fifth in the Gr1 JJ Atkins (1400m) at Eagle Farm behind Rothfire (Rothesay-Huss On Fire, by Hussonet). Subsequently transferred to the Melbourne stable of Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr, the colt commenced his campaign with a disappointing eleventh of 11 in the Gr2 Danehill Stakes before a similar style of performance behind September Run (Exceed and Excel) in the Gr1 Coolmore Stud Stakes. Now in the Warwick Farm stable of Annabel Neasham, the 3YO colt stepped out over 900m at the Rosehill barrier trails on Monday and produced a top-class effort to win his gallop by a length and a quarter. The stakes-winning first crop son of Vinery Stud-based sire Headwater (Exceed and Excel-River Dove, by Hurricane Sky), Wisdom of Water was purchased from the draft of Eureka Stud by Blandford Bloodstock for $70,000; he holds a nomination to the Gr1 TJ Smith Stakes on April 3, but the easier option for the colt could be the Gr2 Arrowfield Sprint the following Saturday.
