  • Krone Value Soars After Maiden Group 1

    Monday, 15th March 2021

In-form mare Krone (Eurozone-Soft Landing, by Al Maher) continued her red-hot form with a brilliant and deserved win in the weekend’s Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) at Rosehill. The victory in one of the most important all-female races in the country was made all the sweeter by the daughter of Eurozone (Northern Meteor) bringing up a black-type hattrick. Her third straight feature win came on the back of success in the $1 million Magic Millions Fillies & Mares on the Gold Coast and then the Group 2 Guy Walter Stakes at Randwick. Technically well-positioned on the fence where she was within striking distance of the leaders, rider Tim Clark was a fifty-fifty at best to thread Krone through traffic, but a split in the last few hundred metres allowed her to charge through and claim her first victory beyond 1400m. The win was also the first at Group 1 level for leading Brisbane trainer Tony Gollan since 2014. A thrilled Gollan said a race like the Coolmore Legacy during the Championships could be on the cards for Krone, but said he would see how she pulls up before deciding what's next. Her latest triumph took Krone’s earnings close to $1.5 million.
