  • Rosemont Stud Secures Hanseatic for Stud

    Friday, 12th March 2021

Premier Victorian operation Rosemont Stud has won the battle to secure last season’s outstanding, multiple stakes-winning 2YO Hanseatic (Street Boss-Itameri, by Exceed and Excel) who will be retired to stand at the iconic Gnarwarre stud. Hanseatic became the first juvenile since Champion colt Rancher (Brave Lad) to win the Merson Cooper Stakes (L), Blue Diamond Preview (L) & Blue Diamond Prelude (Gr3). The Anthony & Sam Freedman-trained colt is a son of high-class speed influence and source of multiple Group 1 winners Street Boss, and is from the winning Exceed And Excel mare Itameri, herself a close relation to the immortal Black Caviar (Bel Esprit). Rosemont principal Anthony Mithen described securing Hanseatic as a watershed moment for Rosemont who has been a major player in the yearling market this year via the newly established colts’ partnership, Victorian Alliance. “I can’t begin to describe how excited we are to add a horse with the obvious Group 1 talent and appeal of Hanseatic to our stallion roster for 2021. He won his first three starts, all at stakes-level, all in eye-catching style before a fast finishing, close second in the Gr1 Blue Diamond Stakes as even money favourite. He was the buzz horse this time last year and deservedly so.” Co-trainer Anthony Freedman revealed, “He’s the most talented 2YO we have had since Alinghi. Just incredible power and burst of acceleration when asked. I’d expect he will be an influential source of early speed.” Leading RSN form analyst Deane Lester described the colt as ‘one of the classiest 2YOs I have measured leading into a Blue Diamond. An elite juvenile who rated extremely highly’. Respected analyst, Daniel O’Sullivan of the Ratings Bureau tweeted his 2YO ratings at the completion of the 2019/20 season with only Golden Slipper winner Farnan (Not A Single Doubt) achieving a higher rating than Hanseatic amongst the juvenile colts. A select, limited number of lifetime breeding rights will be made available in Hanseatic with terms and service fee surrounding this to be determined within the next two weeks.
