  • Champion Almond Eye in Foal

    Friday, 12th March 2021

Dual Japan Horse of the Year Almond Eye (Lord Kanaloa-Fusaichi Pandora, by Sunday Silence) has been scanned in foal to Epiphaneia (Symboli Kris S-Cesario, by Special Week), reports racing.com. Her owners, Silk Racing, announced the positive result via their Twitter account. Almond Eye holds the Japan record for the most number of Group 1 races won with eight on home soil, and one international Group 1. At three, she won four Group 1 races, most notably the Gr1 Japan Cup against older horses, and also picked up the Japanese Filly Triple Crown when winning the Gr1 Shuka Sho, Gr1 Oka Sho (Japanese 1000 Guineas), and Gr1 Yushun Himba (Japanese Oaks). At four, Almond Eye won the Gr1 Tenno Sho, and went to Dubai where she won the Gr1 Dubai Turf over 1800m. In her final season, as a 5YO, Almond Eye won her second Gr1 Japan Cup, as well as her second Gr1 Tenno Sho, and added the Gr1 Victoria Mile as well. Gr1 Japan Cup winner Epiphaneia has only two crops of racing age, and his four stakes-winners include Group 1 winner Daring Tact, Group 2 winner Aristoteles, Group 3 winner Efforia, and Listed winner Orthoclase. His 2020 Fillies Triple Crown heroine 4YO mare Daring Tact (Epiphaneia-Daring Bird, by King Kamehameha) returns this Sunday in the G2 Kinko Sho over 2000m. She had her final fast up the slope at Ritto yesterday morning, and reportedly ran time without being pushed.
