  • Group 1 Dreams For Sires' Produce Winner

    Friday, 5th March 2021

Demoted to Group 2 status back in 2005, the VRC Sires' Produce Stakes (1400m) has always been a strong source of quality runners with previous winners including All Too Hard (Casino Prince), Shamrocker (O'Reilly), Rostova (Tessa Rossa) and Jameka (Myboycharlie) all going on to record Group 1 success later in their careers, but last year's winner Lunar Fox (Foxwedge) will always be remembered as being the largest price winner of a Group 1 feature in history having taken out last weekend's Gr1 Australian Guineas just under 12 months after his Sires' Produce win. With odds of 300/1 on offer in the Guineas, Lunar Fox's victory saw the 3YO colt given a wildcard entry into the $5 million All Star Mile, and with connections adamant there was improvement from the colt who was only stepping out for the second start of his campaign, there could be bigger pay days on the horizon for the owners. This year's field sees 14 acceptances with a wide spread of form lines leading into the race, with only two, surprisingly, coming through the Gr1 Blue Diamond Stakes. Favourite is the Peter Moody-trained Lightsaber (Zoustar-Dream Cirque, by Dream Ahead), a winner of his last two starts, just ahead of Godolphin's colt Paulele (Dawn Approach-Chatoyant, by Flying Spur), a last start sixth, beaten just over 2 lengths by Home Affairs (I Am Invincible), who lines up in Saturday's Gr2 Todman Stakes at Randwick, run 50 minutes after the Sires' Produce Stakes.
