  • Ross Chasing QTIS Crown for Third Time

    Tuesday, 2nd March 2021

Trainer Les Ross has his name etched twice on Queensland's QTIS premiership honour board for 2YOs, and Racing Queensland reports he's well on the way to making it three this season. After winning the 2YO premiership for the first time, in 2015, he is the reigning champion trainer of juveniles after claiming his second crown last season. Passing the half-way mark of the current season, Ross has a firm hold on 2YO title again, but is under pressure to also claim the 3YO crown for the first time with Desleigh Forster his biggest threat. The Eagle Farm trainer hopes to take advantage of Forster's absence when he saddles up Sizzling River (Sizzling-Royal Yangtze, by Royal Academy) at Doomben on Wednesday. The son of Riverdene Stud's Gr1-winning stallion Sizzling (Snitzel-Admirelle, by General Nediym) will be stepping up in distance to 1615m for the first time in the QTIS 3YO Benchmark 65 Handicap. Sizzling River was a last start maiden winner for apprentice Sheridan Tomlinson over 1350 metres at Ipswich on February 3.
