  • Twentieth Gr1 Broodmare Sire Success for Redoute's

    Monday, 1st March 2021

Over the weekend, the Vaughan Marshall-trained Linebacker (Captain of All-Thin Red Line, by Redoute’s Choice) not only became the first Group 1 winner for his Klawervlei Stud-based triple Group 1 winner Captain Of All (Captain Al), but became the twentieth individual elite winner for Champion Redoute’s Choice (Danehill-Shantha’s Choice, by Canny Lad) as a broodmare sire by winning the time honoured Gr1 Cape Derby (2000m) at Kenilworth in South Africa. Ridden by the in-form Grant Van Niekerk, the luckless colt had finished second at his four previous starts, all at black type level, but with everything falling into place in Saturday’s Classic, the colt drew clear to win by a length and a half from stablemate and race favourite Rascallion (Vercingetorix). A graduate of the Cape Thoroughbred Premier Yearling Sale when secured by part owner Kenneth Truter for R425,000, the colt is out of the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale graduate Thin Red Line (Redoute’s Choice-Isadora, by Gold Fever), a three-quarter-sister to the Bjorn Baker-trained Gr1 Winx Stakes winner Samadoubt (Not A Single Doubt).
