  • Mystic Needs Form Reversal in Blamey

    Thursday, 25th February 2021

Chasing her first race win since the Gr2 Stock Stakes at Moonee Valley in late September, Gr1 Australian Guineas winner Mystic Journey (Needs Further-White Gold, by Colombia) heads to Saturday's Gr2 Blamey Stakes (1600m) at Flemington off the back of two short-priced defeats in Tasmania over 1200m and 1400m respectively. A winner at this meeting two years back where she defeated Hawkshot (Fiorente) and Amphitrite (Sebring) in the Guineas, followed by a dominant win in the inaugural All Star Mile at her very next start, the Adam Trinder-trained Magic Millions graduate lines up in Saturday's $200,000 race with Luke Currie in the saddle. With only one last start winner set to contest the open race, the Michael Moroney-trained Buffalo River (Nobel Mission), a narrow second last time out, looks set to start the race favourite with leading jockey Jamie Kah in the saddle. A winner of the last two running's of the race, the Dabernig and Hayes trained-Fifty Stars (Sea The Stars) comes into the race off a last start seventh of eight, beaten over 8-lengths in the Gr2 Apollo Stakes at Royal Randwick, and on that form alone should find it difficult to record three consecutive wins in the race. Fourth in the same race contested by Fifty Stars, the 4YO mare Funstar (Adelaide) is one of two runners for the Chris Waller yard and with her excellent second up record, she should prove extremely competitive.
