  • Rising Savabeel Star Back to Best

    Monday, 15th February 2021

Exciting galloper Amarelinha (Savabeel) bounced back to her very best after suffering a narrow defeat at her most recent start when she captured Saturday’s Gr2 David & Karyn Ellis Fillies Classic (2000m) at Te Rapa. Trained by Jamie Richards for the Te Akau Hopskip'n'jump Syndicate, loveracing.nz reports Amarelinha was sent out a $1.40 favourite for the contest as punters justifiably believed she was a margin above her rivals. That followed a narrow beating at the hands of Champion 3YO-elect Aegon in the Karaka Million 3YO Classic (1600m) at Ellerslie last month, a step above taking on her own age group over the weekend. Leading New Zealand hoop Danielle Johnson was forced to work hard to extricate the daughter of Savabeel from being pocketed but one the duo found clear running the result was never in doubt. After her 4-length triumph, Richards suggested the $300,000 that David Ellis CNZM paid for Amarelinha, when he purchased her out of the Waikato Stud draft at the 2019 Book 1 sale at Karaka, is looking a real bargain. Amarelinha is nominated for the Gr1 Al Basti Equiworld Dubai New Zealand Oaks (2400m), where she is currently a $1.80 fixed odds favourite but no certainty to run.
