  • Entries Open for Key NZB Sales

    Friday, 12th February 2021

New Zealand Bloodstock (NZB) has opened entries for both the 2021 South Island Sale and the 2021 Weanling Sale. There is a distinct difference between the two, however, with the South Island Sale hosted on the sales campany’s successful digital platform Gavelhouse Plus, while the Weanling Sale is set to be held as a physical sale at the Karaka Sales Centre on Friday 14 May. According to nzb.co.nz, with a selection of progeny from leading southern sires, out of New Zealand-bred mares, the South Island Sale (being held for the second time on Gavelhouse) highlights the unique characteristics of the southern product, boasting graduates like Etah James (NZ) (Raise the Flag) and The Chosen One (NZ) (Savabeel) who ran the quinella in the Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m) at Randwick. The catalogue is set to go live on Gavelhouse Plus on Monday 29 March. Meanwhile, star NZB weanling graduates include Group 1 Tarzino Trophy winner Callsign Mav (NZ) (Atlante), a $3,000 weanling purchase and Jennifer Eccles (NZ) (Rip Van Winkle), who was crowned NZB Filly of the Year for 2019-20 and has earned $509,650 in stakes. Given the unlikely chance of a trans-Tasman travel bubble, weanlings offered in the 2021 session at Karaka will be in high demand by astute New Zealand-based pinhookers. Set to take place in one centralised location, this year’s weanling only sale will provide a great opportunity for domestic buyers to inspect and bid on horses.
