  • Lady Brook Favourite for Elusive Country Spot

    Thursday, 11th February 2021

Trainer Phil Sweeney believes Lady Brook (Hinchinbrook-Star Leader, by Galileo) will justify her $2.50 favourites tag in today's Newhaven Park Country Championship Preview Class 4 Handicap at Wagga Wagga today, reports racingnsw.com.au. If she runs well, she will likely line up again at the same track in sixteen days time. The 4YO mare ran second at her last start at Moonee Valley, and she has three wins and four placings from her nine career starts to date. Leading jockey Blaike McDougall will ride, having not ridden her since her last win back in November 2020. Lady Brook is likely to on the speed from barrier two. Also in the field is $4 chance Blitzar (Deep Field-Breannon, by Charge Forward) whose trainer Chris Heywood has declared a change of tactics, wanting to see his horse settle rather than lead. "I'm hoping he does the same thing (as last start) from a better barrier. He has five extra kilograms this time to carry but he is back from open grade to a Class 4," Heywood said. "He has had one trial and one run back and is ready to run a big race." The Country Championship final will be run at Randwick on April 3.
