  • Bowman's Stocks Rising Strongly Again

    Tuesday, 9th February 2021

Hugh Bowman, a darling of Australia’s riding ranks – particularly during the halcyon years of accompanying champion Winx to equine immortality – is enjoying a purple patch after the inevitable low after being in the limelight for so long. The popular hoop has an exceptional arsenal of rides that are being accrued ahead of the autumn carnival, with key prospects in both the 2 and 3YO divisions. Bowman has had the good fortune to pilot both last Saturday’s $2 million Inglis Millennium 2YO hero Profiteer (see below) and $2 million Magic Millions 2YO winner Shaquero. According to racing.com, both are headed to the Gr1 Golden Slipper Grand Finale – a great problem to solve presuming Bowman has first call on each. As Australian racing fans get reminded frequently, underestimate the kiwi topliners at one’s peril, and Aegon’s forthcoming trip across the Tasman spells trouble for the local 3YOs if he’s as good as he looks. Bowman has been tapped to take the ride once here. Then there’s 3YO filly Montefilia, already a dual Group 1 winner, plus the older Chris Waller-trained statesman Kolding who looks back to the type of form that earned him a Gr1 Doncaster and a Golden Eagle. Those runners may not define Bowman’s autumn, but it’s a terrific launching pad.
