  • Second Operation to Delay Parnham Return

    Thursday, 7th January 2021

Jockey Steven Parnham would have been hoping for a Happy New Year after suffering a horror fall in Perth during mid-November which was followed by an operation on his collarbone. According to thewest.com.au, the son of leading trainer Neville Parnham is not out of the woods yet and will once again have to go under the knife with a second operation deemed necessary. Also suffering three broken ribs and a punctured lung during the fall, Parnham missed the Gr1 Railway Stakes ride on star mare Kay Cee after having ridden her to victory in the Gr2 Lee Steere Stakes on 7 November. Ahead of Thursday’s surgery, Parnham revealed, “I’ve already got a plate in there from a previous fall, so the surgeon has to remove it, line it back up and re-plate it. He told me it will be another four-to-six weeks from Thursday, so I won’t be back until mid-to-late February.” In a career peppered by a number of hospitalisations, one of Parnham’s worst encounters was back in 2014 where his mount crashed to the ground at Pinjarra, miraculously leaving him with no breaks (see below).
