Welcome back to a new thoroughbred calendar year where, despite the industry being blessed during COVID 19’s reign in 2020, few have any regrets saying goodbye to last year. For those yearling buyers and breeders in 2020 who adopted the motto Fortis Fortuna Adiuvat (Fortune Favours the Brave) in spite of the then gloomy predictions, here’s hoping you’re rewarded by your boldness. Ironically, 2020 turned out to be a year of heady turnover, a situation likely to be repeated in 2021. Starting with next week’s annual Magic Millions Gold Coast extravaganza comprising 7 days of sales and $10 million The Star Gold Coast Raceday, there is a seeming wall-to-wall three months of yearling sales and lucrative feature racing that also includes Melbourne and New Zealand – stretching all the way to the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale and Day-2 of The Championships at Royal Randwick. Following some brief respite during the back end of April, it’ll be game on again as we work through autumn’s breeding stock sales and major racing carnivals in Adelaide and Brisbane… before the breeding season starts again. Let the games begin…
