Well Bred Frankel 2YO on Debut at Bendigo
Calling any progeny of Frankel well-bred is probably a wasted expression, as they're pretty much all likely to have a back-type pedigree page of note. A debutant this afternoon at Bendigo is no different: Aquilo is trained by Luca Cumani and couldn't have left it any later than this week to make his debut whilst still technically a 2YO. On paper, the blueblood, whose ownership includes OTI Racing, Cressfield and Newgate Stallions, should have plenty to offer. His dam is Stormy Atlantic mare Stormy Lucy who was more than capable on the track. Exclusively campaigned in California's feature events, she is a winner of the Gr1 Matriarch Stakes and two other graded stakes events, but also placed in the Gr1 Del Mar Oaks and twice in the Gr1 Rodeo Drive Stakes at Santa Anita. A $300,000 yearling consigned by Cressfield at the 2019 Inglis Easter Sale, Aquilo's first start is over 1300m with the market suggesting he'll be better over further as a 3YO.
