Bizarre Circumstances See Jumps Rider Banned
Odd-Spot: UK jockey Nathan Moscrop has been given a ten day suspension by stewards for failing to pull up his mount Im Too Generous (Generous-Something Major, by Zaffaran) in the 9 Lives Challenge Novices' Handicap Chase. The evergreen 10YO gelding was one of six starters, but the only one left with two jumps to go. After the last fence, the horse appeared to go lame, and Moscrop eased him down but kept going until the finish line. The BHA stewards' report states, "Nathan Moscrop, the rider of the winner, Im Too Generous, had failed to dismount his horse when it appeared to have gone lame after the final fence. The rider, the veterinary officer and veterinary surgeon were interviewed and recordings of the incident were viewed. The veterinary officer stated that the gelding had finished lame left-fore. The rider was suspended for ten days." Im Too Generous has been troubled by injury problems in his fourteen race career, and didn't race between 2015 and 2019 at all. The horse will now be retired with five wins: one on the flat, and four over hurdles.
