Australian Horses Represented in SAf Group 1s
Soqrat (Equalette-Elzeeza, by Husonet) and Roy's Riviera (All Too Hard-Donna Amata, by Anabaa), both bred in Australia, will run in Group 1 company this Saturday at Greyville, South Africa. Triple Gr1 winner Soqrat will run in South Africa's richest race, the Gr1 Durban July over 2200m, and is coming off a second placing last start in the Gr1 Turffontein Champions Challenge over 2000m. Recent Australian bred winners of the Durban July include The Conglomerate (Lonhro-Republic Lass, by Canny Lad) in 2016 and Igugu (Galileo-Zarinia, by Zabeel) in 2011. The Gr1 Garden Province Stakes over 1600m features 6YO mare Roy's Riviera, a Group 3 winner of five races, who was sold by Baramul Stud for $70,000 at the 2016 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale. She last won three starts ago in Greyville's Gr3 Greyville Flamboyant Stakes over 1600m, so will have no issues with the course and distance.
