Winx The Model Racehorse

Thursday, 16th July 2020

After thrilling a generation with super-equine feats which included 25 Gr1 titles, $26 million plus in prizemoney and the crown of World's Best Racehorse, wonder mare Winx is now the face of a charitable trust which has been created with the aim of caring for retired NSW racehorses. Racingnsw.com.au reports that scale models of Winx are now available through modelling company Breyer Horses with Winx's owners agreeing to her likeness being recreated following her Secretariat Vox Populi Award in the US last year. Breyer's "level of research" and the tick of approval from trainer Chris Waller and jockey Hugh Bowman were essential, however the owners were particularly focussed on the charity element of the arrangement: “As owners, we’re interested in paying forward our good fortune so Breyer kindly agreed to donate $1 from the sale of every Winx model to a charity of our choice,” part owner Debbie Kepitis noted. Team Thoroughbred NSW, Racing NSW's welfare division will receive $1 from the sale of every Winx model allowing the rehoming and re-educating of retired racehorses. Kapitis expanded on her comments: “I truly believe we need to look after the animals which are bred for this industry. It’s great to know Team Thoroughbred provides a safety net for these horses to ensure they are cared for in a way the industry can be proud of.”
