Knight Mariner In A Holding Pattern
The future of promising 3YO Knight Mariner remains clouded after he was taken to the Gatton Veterinary Hospital earlier this week, reports racingnews.co.nz. Looking set to make it three-on-the-trot this preparation when sweeping to the lead 200m out in the Gr3 Winx Guineas at the Sunshine Coast last Saturday, the son of Tavistock was outgunned narrowly by Wapiti in the closing stages. A thorough examination of his pelvis will be undertaken. Trainer Tony Gollan elaborated on the injury, "Baylee (jockey, Nothdurft) said he felt something was wrong 50m out. As he was going out of the home straight he really went amiss behind. We thought it was a possible pelvic fracture but speaking with the vet earlier today it might only be soft tissue now. He is having more tests done on him." With much riding on the results of the scans, Gollan noted, "To be frank, [Knight Mariner] is one of the most promising horses I have ever trained." The gelding is out of a beautifully bred half-sister to Captivate (by O'Reilly).
